About

My name is Gloria Shannon, I’m 23 and a RA suffer from Ireland. I love writing and creating and decided to start a blog about my struggles with my condition.

This is a blog for people who suffer from arthritis, or perhaps people who have a loved one who suffers. Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is an invisible illness I have had since I was 15. It is part of my everyday life and will be a struggle I face until my dying days but I don’t see why it should stop be achieving any of my dreams or living my life. I see it as an obstacle I must overcome rather than a dead end.

I want to share my stories of good days, bad days and days in between, I hope to connect with other suffers who fell alone or like no one understands them. I would also love others to read this blog who have a partner, child, parent, co-worker who suffers from RA, just so they could have an insight into the our lives. It is hard to understand something you will hopefully never experience but hopefully reading this will make you see that they aren’t just excuses they are real life for us.

Thank you for taking the time to read my stories, I hope they help in even the smallest of ways, make you giggle, help you relate or realize your not alone. If this blog does just that then I feel I am succeeding in what I am trying to do here.

  1. Brave and Stoic words Gloria.
As someone who was diagnosed at 30 years of age (I’m now 63) there have been many ups and downs (mostly ups) in my life. My Mom (being a nurse) figured my life and career (as an Tech Engineer) was over when the news broke. However, even though I had 5 prosthetic’s replaced within 5 years of diagnosis (4 of the original’s still in place), it actually gave me the facility to live a full and active life, getting married, having a family and continuing a successful career.
These days, i’m semi-retired, squeezing in some lecturing and helping on the Board of Management of Arthritis Ireland.

    Remember the following:
    – Don’t ever give up.
    – The power of Positive thinking is an essential tool in coping.
    – New medicines and pharma technology is being discovered all the time.
    – Keep pushing your Consultant for the leading drugs (Some can be too conservative)
    – You’ve a great life ahead. Live it to the full.

    Final thoughts:
    – Promise yourself to feel happy every time the sun is reborn each and every morning,
    – Look forward to the future, but never sacrifice the present,
    – Because of that, accept love whenever it crosses your path,
    – Live each minute and never postpone anything that could make you happy.

    Best wishes,
    Andrew

  3. Gloria, my name is Lisa, I am a fellow RA sufferer and in the past few years I have read so much literature around RA but never found people who truly understand. Reading your blog is like watching my everyday life unfold before me. Some days we are great and some days we merely exist but we have a drive to continue on. Would love to see more posts at some stage. Thank you for making me feel ‘normal’ again.
